Seasons for Growth at Pentland
A group of Primary 5s have recently completed a Seasons for Growth course with Mr Peach and Mrs Gellaitry. Seasons for Growth is based on the belief that change, loss and grief are a normal and valuable part of life. It serves to support children as they come to terms with changes in their lives and helps them to restore self-esteem.
Here are some of the comments the participants made at the end of the eight sessions:
"The most important thing I have learned is that things change but it’s OK. Sometimes it’s a good change."
"The most important thing I have learned is that everyone has had a change in their life."
"I really liked time to talk with people. We had funny times."
"I really liked when we read Badger’s Parting Gifts."
"I really liked getting to know the group better."
"I really liked doing all the activities and going for a walk to learn about the seasons changing."
Some Parents’ Comments:
"I think it is great that our children have the opportunity to take part in a program like this."
"I personally think the course is great and has been a suitable opportunity for children of this age to air their emotions/problems."
"It gave them a safe place to talk about their feelings."
"My child learned that it’s OK to change… and good to have different friendships."
